Community and Skill Development

Community and Skill Development at Care of Excellent focuses on helping adults feel connected, capable, and included in everyday life. We combine community integration, community participation, individual skill development, vocational habilitation, and adult day services into supports that are active, social, and meaningful.
For some, that might look like visiting a favorite park, attending a craft group, volunteering, or going to a local event with a trusted staff member by their side. For others, it could mean building social skills in small groups, navigating a grocery store independently, or practicing how to ride safely in the community.
In our skill-building work, we focus on what each person wants for their own life. We might practice budgeting, time management, communication, or using a phone or tablet. Vocational habilitation can include exploring interests, preparing for work routines, learning basic job tasks, or volunteering in ways that build confidence and a sense of purpose.
Adult day services offer a structured, predictable setting where individuals can spend the day with peers, take part in planned activities, enjoy a meal, and receive support without feeling rushed or overlooked. These services can also give family caregivers crucial daytime relief while their loved one is safe, engaged, and supported.
Every plan is person-centered: we ask about goals, strengths, cultural and faith preferences, and comfort levels in different settings. Then we design community participation and skill-building around those answers, not the other way around. Our aim is always the same-greater independence, stronger relationships, and a fuller life in and around Columbus, Ohio.
